We love receiving your photos and travel stories, and sharing them with Lonely Planet’s online community. If you’re a fan of Lonely Planet on Facebook, you may have seen our series of Lonely Planet in the wild photo albums. Pictures of you and your trusty guidebooks on your travels always inspire us, and we receive tonnes of fantastic submissions every week.

Sound like something you’d like to get involved in? For the sake of clarity and fairness, we’ve come up with a set of guidelines to help increase your chances of featuring on our Facebook page.

What we’re looking for

  • LP in the wild pictures must clearly depict the front cover of a Lonely Planet publication – be that print, eBook, a non-English title, old edition, or magazine – in the destination stated on the cover. Pictures may be declined if the book title is illegible. Back covers or other pages do not count.
  • The photo must clearly depict the destination stated on the guidebook cover, meaning the image must feature at least one of the following: local architecture; natural scenery; an iconic or instantly recognisable location.
  • It’s up to you whether travellers feature in the image (but we like to see your travel smiles!)
  • The higher quality the image, the better. Pixelated, blurry or dark images may not be accepted.
  • The best submissions evoke the spirit of travel. They are well-composed, colourful, high-quality images featuring interesting or iconic locations and/or unique perspectives.

Unfortunately, we cannot post the following…

  • Images that do not adhere to our community guidelines.
  • Images of children who appear to be under the age of 14.
  • Collages or heavily edited images.
  • Watermarked images that overtly promote blogs or businesses.
  • Poor quality, dark or blurry images.
  • Images where the destination is not apparent. For example, shots of restaurant tables need to show background scenery or street scenes in the frame too, no matter how authentic the food.
  • Extreme close-ups of guidebooks, or images featuring very little other than the book.
  • Airport or aeroplane pictures.

How to submit your photos

  • E-mail your image as an attachment to [email protected].
  • Include ‘In the wild’ in the subject line.
  • Provide your name and the name of any other people in the photo (where possible). We will credit by first name only.
  • Tell us where you are: the city, region or country.
  • If you have a great anecdote from that trip, please share it with us and we may include it in your image description.
