‘After a long, muddy hike in Vinales we stopped for fresh mango juice and coconuts, and this view of the limestone mogotes.’ – Yasmine, Peeking duck
Why we like it: A painterly capture that transports us to the place. It also plays by that golden photographic mantra: ‘the rule of thirds’.
PUERTO PLATA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

‘While on a business trip to the Dominican Republic in 2012, we traveled to Puerto Plata from Santo Domingo for a one-day visit to some partners in the area. As we were leaving our partner’s office and walking towards the vehicle, I noticed this photo opportunity. I just thought the composition of the image was great: the fruit seller and her bright red shirt, the woman watching for cars on road as she gets ready to cross the street and the grey pastel colors of the colonial house that helps set the background tones of a regular day in the life of a small beach town.’ – ile_explores
Why we like it: The contrast in directions: the road sign pointing one way, the figure on the right walking the other. Capped off by the bright bunch of bananas being carried on the female figure’s head! It’s a real glimpse into local life in the Dominican Republic.

‘We’re big fans of Game of Thrones, so in June 2015 we embarked on a road trip through three Balkan countries. One of them was Croatia – and of course we had to stop in on King’s Landing. As there are tons of pictures of Dubrovnik we tried to capture it from a different perspective, from the city wall.’ – Burcu & Jan Reichenberger, TravAgSta
Why we like it: It’s all about the first person perspective in this picture and the sense of the ‘reveal’ that it gives to the viewer.
NAMIB DESERT, NAMIBIA

‘Thousands of flamingos take flight under our small plane as we cruise under the low lying fog of the Skeleton Coast in Namibia.’ – Mike McCaffrey, Nomadic by Nature
Why we like it: An epic, exotic scene, with a sense of motion created by the mass of flamingos.
