#lpExpertHour: Is it time to go back to Nepal?

#lpexperthour (1)

Since the catastrophic earthquakes that struck Nepal in April and May 2015, we’ve been committed to providing travellers with the most up-to-date and accurate advice about travel to the country.

With Kathmandu and the surrounding valleys being the most affected areas, we’ve worked with a team of local authors on the ground to produce informative articles, provide rolling advice on our Thorn Tree forum and updates on our social media accounts.

We’ve also been working to revise the latest edition of our Nepal and trekking guides, to best advise travellers. Both new editions will be available from the Lonely Planet shop in December.

While much of Nepal has been rebuilt by Nepalis in the last five months, the emphasis now is very much on how quickly tourists will return to the country and invest in the local economy. In light of this, our next #lpExpertHour will be focusing on travel to Nepal.

Join us on Wednesday 25th November as Lonely Planet destination editor, Joe Bindloss, takes the reigns of our Twitter account to share his travel advice and answer your questions about travelling to Nepal.

How do I take part?

Follow @lonelyplanet and the hashtag #lpExpertHour on Twitter on Wednesday 25th November at 4:00pm GMT/ 8:00am PST.

Stay tuned to our feed to see advice and answers direct from our Nepal destination editor, Joe Bindloss. While we’ll do our best to answer your questions, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to answer each and every one.
Introducing our Nepal destination editor

Joe Bindloss is Lonely Planet’s destination editor for the Indian Subcontinent and the author of numerous editions of Lonely Planet’s Nepal and India guidebooks, including the preceding edition of Trekking in the Nepal Himalaya. Joe first visited Nepal in the early 1990s and immediately fell in love with its spectacular treks and the complex, multi-layered culture of the Kathmandu Valley. On his many trips to Nepal, Joe has conquered some of the world’s highest passes, dodged Maoist rebels and survived mountain dentistry – possibly the biggest challenge of his 20-year writing career. Follow him @Joe_planet.

Heading to Nepal? Travel alerts for Nepal and up-to-date advice will be shared here and recent accounts from travellers can be found via our Thorn Tree thread. Also, keep an eye on our blog for a round-up of #lpExpertHour.
