Bolshoi Theatre to start selling cheap standing-room tickets
Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre has announced that it will start selling standing-room tickets from next season. To make this possible, seats with a bad view of the stage will be removed over the summer. The standing-room ticket price will be 100 roubles (approximately US$3), while regular tickets cost upwards of 1000 roubles (or US$30). Read more:

Tube strike called off after last-minute talks
Successful negotiations mean London’s tube network will escape closure this week. The strike, which centred on the closure of ticket offices, was due to take place on Wednesday and Thursday, following an identical strike last week. All services are now expected to run as usual. Read more:

New discount ferries connect UK with France & Spain
Brittany Ferries has a new no-frills service between Portsmouth and mainland Europe from March. Food options will be limited, there are no children’s facilities and cabins will lack such amenities as carpets, but prices will be substantially lower than usual, with fares for two people with a car to Le Havre in France starting at £79, and to Santander in Spain starting at £169. New Picasso exhibition in Madrid
A new exhibition entitled Picasso. En el taller (Picasso. In the workshop) opens at the Fundación Mapfre in Madrid on Wednesday. The collection aims to provide insight into Picasso’s working practices as an artist by displaying palettes, brushes and sketches from seven decades of his career, as well as masterpieces such as his 1906 Self-Portrait with Palette. The exhibition runs until 11 May. Read more:

Acropolis Museum offers new thematic programme for visitors
The Acropolis Museum in Athens is offering a new programme for visitors with a focus on Greek antiquity. It will include weekly thematic sessions and visitors will be able to take part in debates with archaeologists. Twenty-six different topics will be covered until August. Read more:

French train stations to get free wi-fi
Free wi-fi is being introduced to large train stations throughout France, beginning with a pilot program at Lille-Flanders and Avignon-TGV stations in March. SNCF rail company then plans to roll it out to over 40 stations in Paris and the rest of the country by June. Read more: …read more
