Rethymno’s Carnival celebrates 100 years

Belarus & Russia offended by CNN’s ‘world’s ugliest monuments’ list
The Courage monument at Brest Fortress, a Soviet WWII memorial site southeast of Minsk, was included on a list of the world’s ugliest monuments published on the CNN website. The site’s administration and a representative of the National Council of veterans’ affairs have expressed their outrage in the media, and the Russian embassy to the US said in a statement that the list is unacceptable. CNN has withdrawn the story and issued an official apology. Read more: rt.com

Rock in Rio Lisboa certified sustainable
The 2014 Rock in Rio Lisboa festival in Lisbon has been recognised as the first environmentally sustainable festival in Portugal, as well as one of the first in the world. The festival, which takes place over the last two weekends in May and the first day of June in Lisbon’s Bela Vista Park, will ask suppliers to follow its sustainability criteria. Stand-off over plans to sell Cadiz estate
Plans to sell a huge estate in Cadiz province is causing tension between the government in Madrid and regional government in Andalucia. Andalucia want to stop the sale and keep the estate, which is situated in a natural park populated with wild animals, in the public domain. World’s Oldest Porsche on display in Stuttgart
The world’s oldest Porsche has been put on display at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany. Built in 1898, ‘the P1′ was all but forgotten after it was parked in an Austrian barn in 1902.
