Puerto Vallarta – Its Almost That Time Of Year Again

Spring Break in Puerto Vallarta
It’s that time of year again! The slow close of high season, rolling into the less active days of low season, interrupted by the massive arrival of springtime vacationers of all ages and many nationalities. It’s a lot of fun and the city bulges at her borders, especially on the ocean side. We know locals and residents alike who choose to leave Puerto Vallarta at this time however we like to stay and enjoy the hustle and bustle.
The bustle is the good part. If you are a churchgoer, the masses on Palm and Easter Sundays are magnificent, with lovely Passions performed throughout the city. It all starts on Palm Sunday, April 9 this year and continues into Pascua, the week following Easter, which falls on April 16. It’s a bit of a nonstop party throughout Puerto Vallarta and everyone throws up a welcome sign. This comes as no surprise, since this is the last big chance to make money to get through the summer months when tourism drops off. During the two weeks of Semana Santa, over 20 Million Mexicans travel and the majority trek to seaside destinations.
The beach will be a crowded, so crowded it will be difficult to find a square to stake a claim if arriving in the afternoon. Parking will be tougher, with fewer parking spots in Vallarta than spaces on the sand. Construction of many new condo projects will limit this even more, so we suggest parking on the outskirts and bussing into town. It will relieve a lot of frustration and save gas.
Students from the US are more inclined to hit the eastern coastal areas. We will, however, see a fair amount of pink-skinned, over-indulgers in town. There will be some hustle, as well. Anytime a large group gathers in one place with a fair amount of alcohol involved, the attraction of people with negative intentions will be inevitable. Don’t dangle purses off chairs in bars; refrain from leaving cell phones on tables while dancing; assign someone to stay on the blanket with possessions while popping in and out of the waves; if parking in town, don’t leave valuables in plain sight on car seats; avoid flashing large amounts of cash, and leave diamonds and watches at home or in hotel safes. Simple rules of safety. Be very careful walking around town; look both ways when crossing streets and remember pedestrians do not have the right-of-way.
Que es cómo es.
