Animal Rescue in Puerto Vallarta
As many know, our dear little rescued dog Pup is the light of our lives and Kitten is the feline we adopted to keep our canine company. Acquaintances who wonder where we acquired our furry friends are lucky to learn of great multiple sources in Puerto Vallarta; private, government supervised and well organized associations.
The Acopio is a government facility, funded by private donations and run by government employees. Dogs and cats are allowed to reside for a limited time but since this is a no-kill shelter, they must then be carted off elsewhere, unless they are adopted or retrieved by an owner. The SPCA of Puerto Vallarta is also a sanctuary, like the Acopio but was established by a private citizen and is completely supported by the generosity of donations and fundraisers. Social soirees of the high season, of which tickets sell out fast, raise money through auctions and raffles. The Acopio and SPCA are actual locales one can meet and pet the animals. They are in constant need of supplies and a helping human hand.
Other organizations have been founded by private sources, such as Match-Dog-Com-Puerto-Vallarta, a Facebook page managed by an individual, Candace Shaw. Shaw uses social media to reunite owners with lost pets, is very instrumental in finding homes for abandoned and homeless dogs and cats, and works closely with the above organizations.
What’s the best way to solve this problem of overpopulation of the pet kingdom? Spaying and neutering. It is imperative and the goal of local animal lovers to reduce the populace of dogs and cats who roam the city, breeding out of control. Benefits are held every Saturday at the beach restaurant Langostino’s, and we enthusiastically encourage everyone to attend this great cause; it’s always heaps of fun. Money raised goes to spay and neuter clinics, operated by volunteers; doctors supervising, with the help of non-professionals assisting without pay. Animal rescue in Puerto Vallarta has been a chief aim for many years; there are many sites to be found on social media such as PV Pooch, Adopt Me PV, plus websites www.mexpup.com and www.lasanimasdogrescue.com among many others. If that isn’t enough, there are also online auctions created by donations from the generosity of magnanimous animal lovers. Volunteers are often needed to accompany pets on flights to Canada and the USA, where 50 to 90 percent are adopted. It’s an easy task, costs the volunteer nothing and joins the pet to his or her furever home.
Que cómo es es.
