Puerto Vallarta Mexico . The Bougainvillea Festival is confirmed for May 17-24, 2013 to coincide with the Vallarta Restaurant Week. The Puerto Vallarta Garden Club made the official announcement after many years of nurturing the bright flowering plants all over downtown Puerto Vallarta.
The Vallarta Botanical Gardens VBG has been very involved and were instrumental in the development of the PV Garden Club and concept of the Bugainvillea Festival. They have planted uncounted Bougainvilleas in the new planters along popular streets in both the Romantic and Historic Zones and in any patch of soil that a Bougainvillea might survive. The rainy summer season has been a kind to them and given them a chance to establish a root system and they are now growing well and will start to flower when the rains end and the temperatures drop a bit. The flowers of the Bougainvillea are actually very nondescript however they develop bright-colored leaves around the tiny white flower and the leaves are usually bright Fuchsia pink, or a darker reddish pink, as well as a less brilliant orange and white. They grow in clusters and will cover a wall or cascade down from a balcony. The other charm of the Bougainvillea is that they continue to bloom most of the year or about 8 months, but are particularly brilliant in May. Thus the decision to hold the festival in May and combine at the same time as the very popular Vallarta Restaurant Week . The Restaurant Week event is hosted and organized by Vallarta Lifestyles Publishing Group. The 2 groups will combine forces to promote Puerto Vallarta and their events. According the an article in Banderas News many other activities are being planned including a street party as a “Salute to Mexico” and a candlelight procession, a special day devoted to children, guided walking tours of downtown, a traditional British High Tea, Mexican Folk Dancers and a special guided bus tour to the Vallarta Botanical Gardens. The Botanical Gardens are located approx 20 minutes drive south of downtown Puerto Vallarta just past Mismaloya. The Bougainvillea Festival has its own Facebook page to please visit them and click “LIKE”
The Vallarta Botanical Gardens have been donating and planting flowering tropical plants around PTO. Vallarta for many years while at the same time working hard to make the Botanical Gardens the special place it has become, complete with an amazing restaurant for lunch or dinner.
