The Puerto Vallarta, Restaurant Week 2014 started May 15th and goes through to May 31st. This is the 10th year of the popular culinary event so it is the 10th anniversary as well. If you are not familiar with the concept restaurants participating in the event offer special Menu’s for an amazingly low price either $199 or $299 MN (pesos) or approximately $15 or $25 USD each. The menu includes three courses: a starter, main course and dessert with three or four options for each. So far I have enjoyed the promotion at a couple of my favorite restaurants in Puerto Vallarta. Café Maximilian or Kaiser Maximilian’s is one a delightful European style bistro in the heart of the Romantic zone with sidewalk tables if you like to people watch as well as indoor tables if you want something more intimate. The owner and host Andreas Rupprechter is from Austria originally and was making a bit of a play with the name as it honors fellow countryman who was also a former Emperor of Mexico. However the menu is the true attraction next to the exceptional service. If you are tired of restaurants where the servers do not believe in service you will love Maximilian’s. Tell Andreas I sent you and ask for the San Blas Salad – not on the menu but a personal favorite with warm shrimp and calamari served over wilted spinach with a secret dressing. They also have a great selection of special coffees check out the Espresso Bar if you just crave a coffee and dessert
My other favorite is Restaurant Trio a hidden treasure just a few blocks from the iconic Cathedral Our Lady of Guadalupe on Guerrero Street #264. When a restaurant is owned and run by two Chefs you know the food will be amazing and Trio is true to this philosophy. The unique culinary fusion of two European chefs, Bernhard Güth and Ulf Henriksson, makes Trio stand out in a town full of amazing culinary experiences.
