It’s High Season!
This past summer in Puerto Vallarta, a guest asked us if this was High Season, in the middle of July. She presumed that since schools were out in the States and Canada, it must be primary travel time. Not so. High Season is NOW, and there are few places in Puerto Vallarta that don’t validate the fact. Restaurants have waiting lines; discos are bulging; the airport is chaotic; laundry services are backed up; the streets are teeming.
High Season starts pretty much right after Thanksgiving in the United States. Crowds grow exponentially until Christmas when it feels like Puerto Vallarta might be bursting at the seams. It’s the time for locals to make money that will get them through the year, so they are usually in a better mood than normal. Keeping this in mind, we encourage people to tip generously. If we go back to any business establishment in town, we find the staff recognizes us on the second visit; it’s inspiration to promote appreciation.
Easter in Puerto Vallarta is also very busy, but the major sum of visitors are Nationals, who vacation in a different manner; bringing their own food, packing coolers to the beach and camping in all available spaces.
Given this information, it’s imperative to book ahead. If you plan to stay for any length of time, hoping to perhaps purchase vacation property yourself, we suggest seeking accommodations in smaller hotels or Airbnb locations. The grand resorts are fantastic, but we recommend short stays, a week is perfect; they are ideal for families who favor the all-inclusive style. Airline flights are the same; booking in advance can save money.
With hoards of people, one needs to be very careful on the streets. Hold hands of children whenever approaching a crossing; keep a close eye out for vehicles, taxis, and buses. Remember that pedestrians do NOT have the right-of-way in Puerto Vallarta. Avoid mishaps by looking left, right and left again.
It’s a different-strokes-for-different-folks issue. Some like the heat of the summer, fascinating lightning storms, and smaller throngs. Others are drawn to Puerto Vallarta in the winter because of the balmy weather, cooler nights and fiestas.
Have a pleasant stay in our adopted city and stay as long as you like and in High Season, be sure to pack your patience!
Que cómo es es.
