It is that time of year again, turtles return to the beach where they were born to lay eggs and continue the cycle of life. The amazing process happens June through September. The natural process would be for the eggs to incubate in the sand and approximately 45 days later the eggs begin to hatch and baby turtles would head towards the ocean.
However with the increase in population and popularity of Puerto Vallarta as a travel destination, the beaches are not a safe place for the fragile turtle eggs. Enter a group of Marine Biologists and the local governments Department of Enviroment and Ecology, who together with local beachfront resorts and hotels offer Turtle protection programs. This pairing of efforts is also the opportunity for hotels to offer visitors the unique experience of helping the tiny hatchling turtles to arrive safely at the ocean.
