Today in Puerto Vallarta, there is light surf near the mouth of the River Cuale; there were a line of surfers waiting, for waves to come in. Confidant that that there are no sharks in Puerto Vallarta as compared to the growing number of attacks in Hawaii. There was even a fatality from a shark attack recently. Puerto Vallarta is located in a large bay called Banderas Bay and the theory I have heard is that the dolphin’s keep the Sharks out of the bay by pushing them with their Dolphin noses. Go figure, who would think a shark, would be deterred by being bunted by a dolphin. The good news is that the Sharks do not seem to enter the bay. Knock on wood, there have not been any sightings in recorded history. There is a saying locally that “the only Sharks in Puerto Vallarta are on the Beach” meaning either the guys picking up on tourist girls or perhaps the vendors – not sure which ones.
There are lots of Whales during the winter months when they come south, in the summer you see mostly dolphins and the turtles lay their eggs in the sand and the eggs hatch and baby turtles head to the ocean.
