Online holiday rental companies under fire again
Officials in San Francisco are putting forward a ballot proposing increased restrictions on people renting out their homes to visitors. Companies like Airbnb have become hugely popular in recent years as travellers look for cheaper, more homely alternatives to traditional hotels, but if the ballot succeeds their operations would be severely affected. Zonkey born in Mexican zoo
A rare cross between a zebra and donkey, a zonkey, has been born in Tamaulipas Zoo, in northeastern Mexico. Baby Khumba’s zebra mother was visited each day by his father, a dwarf, albino donkey from a nearby farm, and gave birth to her genetically unlikely son on April 21. Read more: telegraph.co.uk

Another day of violent tornadoes hits the south
Southern states of the US have had a second day of violent storms with Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee being hit by deadly tornadoes. Around fourteen people lost their lives on Monday, bringing the death toll up to around 30 people in two days. Emergency crews are still searching wreckage of the worst hit towns where buildings have been totally destroyed. Tornado threats are set to continue for the next few days. Read more: usatoday.com

Amtrak to trial a pets-on-board policy in Illinois
Amtrak have announced it will be trialling a new pets-on-board policy. The trial will affect the route from Chicago to Quincy, where travellers will be allowed to take cats and dogs that weigh up to 20 pounds on Amtrak trains for a US$25 fee. The trial policy will run from 5 May to 2 November and, if successful, could then be rolled out on the rest of the network. Read more: suntimes.com
